No, sometimes the best games are the ones that take an established genre and then twists it, creating something entirely new and refreshing. Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, the newest action game from Midway, follows this path and comes out on top.
- The end of the game was a disappointment as most games are, and this one in particular was apparently setting up for a Psi-Ops 2 which never came! However, a lot of replay value in this game I think - so 4 stars overall for the game and 4 stars for the fun level. (played in 3rd person view).

I particularly like the way you get introduced (via training missions) throughout the game rather than all at the beginning which i think would have been confusing. I rarely finish games but i wouldn't be surprised if this is an exception. Highly recommended. Being released so close to the mostly excellent Second Sight comparisons were always going to be made and, for me at least, Psi-Ops just comes off second best. Thats not to say that Psi-Ops is not worth playing however. The controls are well implemented and the game encourages creative use of each of your powers throughout the game in order to defeat enemies and solve environmental puzzles.
The Havok powered physics engine is also put to good use with enemies and objects flying around (semi) realistically. Psi-Ops is far from perfect of course and problems such as randomly respawning enemies and a slightly awkward camera can be frustrating on occasions. Providing you can get over these however there is a great deal of fun to be had here.
