Xcom Enemy Within Freeze Fix
If that doesn't help, play XCOM Long War in offline mode in Steam. This has been reported to work if you are getting periodic slowdowns during play, and sometimes addresses lockups during game load, including the 'Loading User Settings' freeze. Dec 7, 2015 - As the title suggest, enemy within and long war both freeze while saving and won't be playable until PC gets restarted. I have tried practicly every fix out there none which have proven any resaults. I did install everything to C: drive just to make sure, it did seem to work initially but the issue came back within.
By 'semi-freeze' I mean when the game decides to not let your squad do anything. The game itself doesn't freeze; you can hear sounds (especially when frantically trying to get an ability to work) and static character animations still run. You can't give orders at all.
The only way to fix it is to restart the game. When you're in a tense fight, having this bug pop up kills all enjoyment. I've had it fix itself once (and only once; the way it was fixed doesn't work anymore), but that screwed up the rest of the operation at the time, since I double-clicked on an ability I didn't want to use. I'm seriously regretting my purchase since this bug ruins the game, outweighing everything the game does well. I think I've reached the point where I have to stop playing. The bug OP is talking about happens to me on council missions alot. I think it's a script error.
Xcom Enemy Within Gameplay
On missions where you save a VIP, I move my squad in and decimate the poor lil sectoids. It's all good. Then I move a soldier near the VIP, camera zooms to a specific spot on the map and stays there. Tried reloading an autosave of the previous turn, same error. Reloaded a save from before I started the mission, same error. Also, I get this error on the Alien Base mission and the Temple Ship mission.
I have found no work around except to start a new game and pray that it doesn't turn into crap. This bug is game breaking and extremely disappointing. I really do like Xcom. I still play Apoc and will probably switch to playing that while 2k figures out how to patch the broken thing they've given me. Discovered a bug where if you hit 2 muton berserkers at once with a rocket your game crashes.

I've only had this game for a week. The amount of bugs I've come across makes me think this game has huge issues and was not finished when it was released. I thought only Bioware released half finished products. If I had bought this game from a store, I would take it back and get my money.
I'm not sure I can do that here on steam.
